Subject: LKB in Sweet Hall
dear all,
as we announced today, you should be able to use the LKB software on
the Sun workstations in Sweet Hall. as a first-time set-up, please do
the following:
add to the end of the file `.cshrc' in your home directory:
#
# add support for LKB grammar engineering environment (for Sweet Hall)
#
if ( -f /afs/ir.stanford.edu/users/o/e/oepen/.cshrc.lkb ) then
source /afs/ir.stanford.edu/users/o/e/oepen/.cshrc.lkb
endif
add to the end of the file `.emacs' in your home directory:
;;;
;;; load support for LKB grammar engineering environment (for Sweet Hall)
;;;
(let ((file "/afs/ir.stanford.edu/users/o/e/oepen/.emacs.lkb"))
(if (file-exists-p file) (load file nil t t)))
to allow these changes to take effect, log out of the current session
and back in again. now start `emacs' from a shell prompt and use
M-x lkb RET
to launch the LKB from within emacs. the LKB Top window should pop up.
to get access to the course CVS repository, you can use CVS just like
from Meyer Hall, e.g.
cvs checkout grammar1
to obtain our original starting grammar for the first assignment. but,
as you have worked hard on that assignment during the laboraotry today,
better make sure to resume work on the files that you have copied over
from Meyer.
finally, to read the on-line LKB user manual, type:
lkbdoc
at a shell prompt; Acrobat Reader should pop up (after a short while,
should you have chosen one of the less powerful Sweet Hall machines)
and show the on-line LKB user manual.
please let us know how things work; all best - oe
nb: when you are done for the day, please make sure to shut down the
LKB and emacs properly: select `Quit' from the LKB Top window before
exiting from emacs (`Files -- Exit Emacs').

Reply-to: oe@csli.stanford.edu
dear all,
to simplify the submission of your homework, we have prepared a script
for you to use on the Sweet Hall machines. from now on (though maybe
after you have logged out and back in again once today), in the shell
you can use the command:
submit grammar1
to have the entire contents of the subdirectory `grammar1' packed up in
an archive and sent to us. this is assuming that, as you do this, you
are in the _parent_ directory of `grammar1', i.e. `ls -l grammar1' will
show you a listing of what you are about to submit.
all best - oe
